Public invited to Korean War Armistice
Ceremony on July 27 in Dearborn
Free event honoring Korean War veterans;
refreshments to follow at Dearborn DAV hall
DEARBORN, Mich. – The public is invited to pay tribute to Korean War
veterans and mark the 64th anniversary of the armistice of the
Korean War with a solemn ceremony on Thursday, July 27.
The ceremony begins 10 a.m. at the Ford Community and
Performing Arts Center’s Korean War Living Memorial, 15801 Michigan Ave.
A wreath will be placed at the memorial to pay respect to
the 26 men from Dearborn who died during the war, as well as all those who
Korean War veterans, their families and the public are
invited to attend. Following the tribute, refreshments will be served at the
Disabled American Veterans Chapter 51 Hall, 6117 Chase Road in Dearborn.
The Korean War, known as the "Forgotten War,"
took place from June 1950 to July 1953. According to most estimates, more
than 36,000 Americans died during the war, 103,000 were wounded, and 8,177 were
listed as missing in action. More than 5 million Americans served in the
Dedicated in 2001, Dearborn’s memorial includes three Red
Baron crabapple trees and a granite rock with a commemorative plate.
